INITIATIVE TO ADDRESS THE ENVIRONEMNTAL CONCERN

Environment Protection: Environment means anything that surrounds us. It can be living (biotic) or non-living (abiotic) things. It includes physical, chemical and other natural forces. Living things live in their environment. They constantly interact with it and adapt themselves to conditions in their environment. In the environment there are different interactions between animals, plants, soil, water, and other living and non-living things. Since everything is part of the environment of something else, the word environment is used to talk about many things. People in different fields of knowledge use the word environment differently. Electromagnetic environment is radio waves and other electromagnetic radiation and magnetic fields. The environment of galaxy refers to conditions of interstellar medium. Nowadays the people which constitute a very small part of it has destroyed the equilibrium of the environment by disturbing its harmony by polluting it in various ways to fulfil their desires. In order to protect the environment NRDC is contributing in its effort by promoting afforestation in its area of operation. Also NRDC has been managing a decentralized nursery at Kakatpur under Puri district of Odisha which is helping in afforestation and at the same also helping in creating resources for the organization. The Nursery located at Balidokan under Kakatpur block of Puri district produced 80000 seedlings of which 32000 seedlings were distributed to the targeted mass free of cost and the remaining 48000 seedlings were sold to the people on subsidized rate to create revenue for the organization and to meet the expenses of the nursery. Such an effort has served the dual purpose of creating useful resources for the community and helping in bio-diversity conservation.

EFFORTS TO ENSURE LIVELIHOOD SECURITY:

(i)Training cum Production Centre in Tailoring : India’s youth today is facing a serious problem in unemployment and underemployment. There are many causes for this, some of which include 65 dropping out of high school, needing to support one's family at an early age, lack of quality education, lack of information on the job market, and, most importantly, not possessing the basic skills required by employers today. Itwould benefit students if they are encouraged to join skilling programmes. It gives them clarity about their means of livelihood, much needed confidence, and a direct career boost. NRDC has been actively contributing by arranging skill development programmes for the unemployed youths in Tailoring which has been one of the evergreen trade. NRDC has been running a Training cum Production center in Tailoring/Readymade garment making since long. During the year 215 nos. of youths of both sexes were trained with marketable skill and provided with back up assistance for staring their own production units for their economic self-sustenance. Some of the beneficiaries were employed in the TPC managed by our organization & earned Rs.6000/- per month by working part time. Some of the beneficiaries from Swadhar Greh & Ujjawala Home have been involved in this programme for their economic rehabilitation
(ii) Training cum Production Centre in Soft Toy Making : Talent is innate, but skills are acquired. Skill training focuses on identifying, training and nurturing talent, in any desired field. The social emphasis on scholastic achievement leaves little room for appreciating the diversity of talent that could make a qualitative difference to the potential of the skilled workforce. This is even more relevant in the case of artisans and craftspeople who continue their legacy, irrespective of their individual talent and capabilities. Hence skilled human being is always in demands they are capable of doing something perfectly than others. Considering the above fact NRDC has been equipping certain sections of society especially semi educated women belonging to BPL families with soft skill like soft toys making for their economic self sustenance. Soft toys making has universal demand due to its marketability and diversified use. These toys are accepted by all age groups and can be marketed easily. Therefore the organization has been proactively promoting this activity among the unemployed youths from Subarnapur district of Odisha with a view to provide them sustainable source of livelihood. During the current year 64 nos. of such youths were identified and provided with skill training in Soft Toys making along with marketing skill at the training center of our organization located at Tarbha under Subarnapur district of Odisha. Then most of the trained youths have started their own production units with our back up services like arranging micro finance, assisting in marketing of finished products for establishing their IGP. Also some of the Ujjawala Home beneficiaries were also trained under this programme for their economic rehabilitation.
(iii) Food Processing training cum production center : As we all know that ours is a country predominantly resided by farmers. Farming is the main source of our livelihood. But due the lack of technological interventions, value addition initiatives most of our produce is either sold at throw away process or wasted thus. Ultimately the farmers gain nothing despite their hard work and effort. In order to strengthen the backbone of our farmers we should take proactive steps like making arrangements for value addition of the produces and creating markets for the same so that the farmers will get better return and socioeconomic status of the farmers will increaseNRDC has been taking proactive steps to help the farmers in arranging skill training in food processing skill and during the year on report 64 farmers hailing from Subarnapur district including some Swadhar Greh & Ujjawala Home beneficiaries were trained in food processing & preservation technique which included processing of grams, preservation technique of food grains, fruits, vegetable, preparation of different types of cakes, pickles, spices, sauces, Body pampad etc. Such an initiative has not only helped in proper utilization of the surplus produce but also helped in strengthening the economic status of the farmers.
(iv) Promoting Self Help Group & MED : A self-help group (SHG) is a village-based financial intermediary committee usually composed of 10–20 local women or men. Most self-help groups are located in India, though SHGs can be found in other countries, especially in South Asia and Southeast Asia. Normally members also make small regular savings contributions over a few months until there is enough money in the group to begin lending. Funds may then be lent back to the members or to others in the village for any purpose. In India, many SHGs are 'linked' to banks for the delivery of micro-credit. Considering the role of SHGs in the development of the rural poor, NRDC has been promoting SHGs and providing backward linkage for development of MED among the members for their economic empowerment. NRDC has been organizing various Capacity building programmes for the SHGs in Puri andSubarnapur districts of Odisha since long. Such aprogrmme has proved that ladies folk of the society can lend in a big way by supplementing the income source of the family by the initiative. NRDC has so far formed 210nos. of SHGs in Kakatpur & Tarbha blocks of Puri & Subarnapur district respectively. These SHGs are now involved in various economic activities with our assistance and helping in increasing their family income and also strengthening rural economy.

EDUCATING THE RURAL MASS :

Awareness Programme on HIV/AIDS : AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) is a syndrome caused by a virus called HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). The disease alters the immune system, making people much more vulnerable to infections and diseases. This susceptibility worsens if the syndrome progresses.HIV is found throughout all the tissues of the body but is transmitted through the body fluids of an infected person (semen, vaginal fluids, blood, and breast milk). No cure exists for AIDS, but strict adherence to antiretroviral regimens (ARVs) can dramatically slow the disease's progress as well as prevent secondary infections and complications. Considering the high risks associated with the disease NRDC organized Targeted Intervention Programme for migrant labourers in Subarnapurdistrict in which 200 truck drivers were identified and involved in FGD, awareness through Audio Visual Display, Condomdistribution, Case discussion etc. to disseminate the knowledge on HIV/AIDS and measures for its prevention. The said initiative has brought desired result as the concerned drivers have spread the knowledge in their neighborhood, peers, locality as per the information received from a follow up programme. Hence the programme has been successful in spreading the desired message among the targeted mass, Social worker and Counselor of the organization are regularly organized of awareness camp with involvement of the mostly vulnerable groups for HIV/AIDS.
Drug Awareness Programme : With the advent of time the new drugs including synthetic drugs are being abused by the people unaware its serious ill effects. It is thus imperative to educate the people about it so that the abuse of drugs may come down, Sometime people mistakenly think that those who use drugs lack moral principles or willpower and that they could stop their drug use simply by choosing to. In reality, drug addiction is a complex disease, and quitting usually takes more than good intentions or a strong will. Drugs change the brain in ways that make quitting hard, even for those who want to. Fortunately, researchers know more than ever about how drugs affect the brain and have found treatments that can help people recover from drug addiction and lead productive lives. 7 Considering the serious impact of drug dependency, it is thus desirable to prevent the people being addicted to drug. Thus NRDC has been organizing awareness programmes in Subarnapur district of Odisha. During the year following activities were undertaken in Subarnapur district of Odisha.
 Focused Group Discussion among the stake holders.
 Awareness through Cultural programmes like Pala & Street Play.
 Posters & leaflets distribution. The project was implemented by utilizing our own resources.

WELFARE OF DISTRESSED:

(i) SwadharGreh : The Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt.. of India is implementing the Swadhar Greh Scheme which targets the women victims of difficult circumstances who are in need of institutional support for rehabilitation so that they could lead their life with dignity. The Scheme envisages providing shelter, food, clothing and health as well as economic and social security for these women. The scheme envisages to take care of the women in distress those are without any social and economic support. It also helps in providing legal aid and guidance to address their marital disputes so as to adjust them in their family or society for a peaceful living. NRDC has been the implementing the Swadhar Greh in the name of “Ashraya” Swadhar Greh at Sonepur (Palace Garden) under Subarnapur district of Odisha. This center is in operation since 2008-09 and accommodating 30 women in difficult circumstances with their minor children up to 12 years in case of boys and girls up to the age of 18 years. All the desired care and services are being made available to the inmates ofthe Home for their complete rehabilitation including lodging, boarding, clothing, healthcare, vocational training, legal assistance and rehabilitation assistance for re-integration in the community. The children of the inmates have also been accommodated in the home. The children are being provided all types of facilities along with education in the local Govt. Schools and AWC below 6years of child. The ADM of district administration and DIC members are inspected the home in regularly basic. Further for economic rehabilitation and mainstreaming the inmates are being provided market demand driven vocational skill training in two trades like Food Processing & Tailoring to suit the education of level of knowledge are being imparted. This project has been a welcome destination for the women in difficulty and hopefully will remain so. The organization also regularly organized awareness camp on HIV/AIDS involving the inmates of the Home with its own resources targeting the vulnerable groups like migrant laborers.
(ii) Ujjawala Home with Prevention & Re-Integration Components : Trafficking of women and children for commercial sexual exploitation is an organized crime that violates basic human rights. India has emerged as a source, destination and transit for both in-country and cross border trafficking. The problem of trafficking of women and children for commercial sexual exploitation is especially challenging due to its myriad complexities and variation. Poverty, low status of women, lack of a protective environment etc. are some of the causes for trafficking. A multi sectoral approach is needed which will undertake preventive measures to arrest trafficking especially in vulnerable areas and sections of population; and to enable rescue, rehabilitation and reintegration of the trafficked victims. reforms and creation of corpus fund for addressing the problem of trafficking. It is well known fact that the problem of trafficking in Odisha is rampant and the most important reason behind the problem is poverty and illiteracy. However to address the problem of trafficking Govt. of India, Ministry of Women & Child Development has been implementing the scheme “Ujjawala” for prevention, rehabilitation& re-integration of trafficked women & girls. NRDC has been managing this scheme with components like Prevention and (P & R) Home with Re-Integration. The project is running from April 2013 at Tarabha under Subarnapur district of Odisha and providing rehabilitation assistance to 25 nos. of women/girls who are vulnerable/victims of trafficking. The ADM of district administration and DIC members are inspected the home in regularly basic. Under the project there are various steps to prevent the trafficking. Community Vigilance Group have been formed in the district to act as Protective & Preventive groups and the concerned members have been sensitized to track the cases of trafficking and keep a vigil on the vulnerable families and the agents involved in trafficking. Also various awareness generation through mass media including kalajathas, street plays, puppetry etc. and activities like Seminar, SensitizationWorkshop, distribution of leaflets, poster, pamphlets etc. were conducted in the district during the year to create general consciousness about the problems of trafficking. Also Half Way Home has been established where the victims would spend some time before they could be mainstreamed to have an independent living in the society where they would learn the life skills. Here they are allowed to practice how to live in the society with others like a normal human being without any stress. This is for smooth transition from P & R Home to an independent living. Our organization started the Half Way Home at Block Pada, Tarabha during the year 2016-17and 5nos. of beneficiaries were transferred from (P & R) Home to this center. The beneficiaries would be re-integrated with the society in phased manner to have a normal living either with their families or separately. The organization also regularly organized awareness camps in the local community from its own resources with involvement of the mostly vulnerable groups for HIV/AIDS.
(iii) Welfare of Aged :
(a) Maintenance of Senior citizens Home : There have been many transformations in recent years that have had an impact on society in different sectors – societal, financial and personal. Lifestyles have changed, some for the better and a few with negative consequences. The population in general has been reaping the benefits, and mostly those from the younger generation have been able to realize many of their dreams and develop their careers in a better fashion than was possible earlier. However, the senior citizens, referred to as elders, face certain problems as a consequence of the social transformation. This is reflected in the transition from the traditional ways of life tomodern patterns, which require many compromises and adjustments.. Hence the senior citizens needs to be protected against problems and for which the need of old age home arises. Govt. of India, Ministry of Social Justice &Empowerment has been rightly running the project “Maintenance of Senior Citizen’s Home” under the scheme “under the Scheme of NAPSrC” Our organization has been running a Senior Citizen’s Home namely “Mahima Ananda Niwas” which is now functioning at Sanajhinki, Po-Sonepur, Dist-Subarnapur. The project is being run with assistance from the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. 25 nos. of helpless older persons hailing from Subarnapur district since from 2006-07 and grant-in-aid avail from 2018-19 are getting services of the center which include lodging, boarding, health care, recreational and assistance for productive activities to keep them engaged. The project is also taking necessary steps for educating the public against the exploitation, neglect of the older persons by their kith and kin. The CCTV already installed in the center for easily monitoring the project.
(b) Senior Citizen’s Homes for 50 Women & Men :Generally it is found that women live longer than men, hence the no. of women senior citizens are more compared to men in our society. Hence they experience a longer period of ill health, poverty, financial insecurity, high levels of dependency and gender-based discriminatory practices. Often gender stereotypes lock women into care giving to other older family members. Further, widowhood is associated with harmful traditional and cultural practices. As women usually feel powerless towards many things in a typically male dominated society, they feel less depressed in old age than men who are unused to the powerlessness and loss of control that often accompany old age. The widows face manifold problems such as Inheritance Rights: Majority of Indian Windows are deprived of their inheritance rights. Prohibition of Remarriage: Some castes prohibit remarriage of widow. Considering the problems faced by the older women such as single living, abandonment by family due to illiteracy, malnourishment, abuse, ill-health, lack of housing and exclusion from economic benefits. The situation is worse in case of elderly women. Elderly women face bias and discrimination throughout their life but they never raise their voice against it. To address the issue pf these neglected mass of the society and provide a dignified living for these widows, NRDC has been managing the projects named as “Senior Citizen’s Home for Women & Men in two locations such as Tarabha under Subarnapur district & another at Balidokan near by Puri Jaganathdham of Puri district. Fifty nos. of women & Men are staying in the center in Subarnapur district and also same 50 nos. of women & Men are staying in Puri district & receiving integrated support & care services like lodging, nutritious food, healthcare, recreational services and assistance for productive engagement. The said two projects are being run with our own resources. We are making necessary effort to avail financial assistance from Govt. of India, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment under the scheme “National Action Plan for Senior Citizens”.
(c) Open Shelter for children in need : The large numbers of homeless children, pavement dwellers, street and working children and child beggars, left on their own and in need of care and support, is an urban phenomena of great concern. 29% of India’s population resides in urban areas, half of which live in conditions of extreme deprivation compounded by lack of shelter and access to basic services like sanitation, safe drinking water, education, health care, recreational facilities, etc. The urban population is also expanding rapidly because of intense rural urban migration, swelling cities and towns, further compromising the ability of civic authorities to meet people’s basic needs. A large proportion of the migrant population ends up residing in inhuman conditions in slums, squatter colonies, railway platforms, pavements, bus stops, tourist spots, etc. As a result, urban poverty and hunger are increasing. These children are in risk of exploitation and needs rehabilitation for their mainstreaming Government has been running the project “Open Shelter for Children in Urban & Semi Urban Areas to address the problems of these children living with proper care and protection. The said project comes under the scheme called “Integrated Child Protection Scheme” of the Ministry of Women & Child Development, Govt. of India.NRDC has been managing this project at Tarbha under Subarnapur district with our own resources. Fifteen nos. of children are now staying in the Home. In the home the children are being provided with integrated care services like lodging, boarding, healthcare, formal education, vocational; training, recreational etc. to address their wholesome development for mainstreaming them. The Home is now being considered for registration under JJ Act and subsequent assistance under ICPS Scheme.
(d) Rehabilitation for Leprosy Cured Persons: Leprosy is a disease, which strikes fear in the society as a mutilating, disfiguring, contagious and incurable disease. Leprosy has been a highly stigmatizing disease for centuries because it causes physical disfigurement and no cure being available until the 20th century. No disease has been more closely associated with stigma than leprosy, and it has become a metaphor for stigma. Persons affected by leprosy were forced to leave their home and live in segregated areas and suffer economic and social losses (participation restrictions) causing physical and emotional distress. This is the only disease where the sufferer had to live in separate colonies, villages and even in distant islands. To provide rehabilitation services to these leprosy cured persons and help them to have a living with dignity, Govt. of India, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment has been running the project “Rehabilitation for Leprosy Cured Persons” under the Scheme “Deendayal Disabled Rehabilitation Scheme to promote Voluntary Action for Persons with Disabilities. Our organization has been managing this project with assistance from the Ministry. Under this project 25 nos. of LCPs were. taking into account the problems/discrimination being faced by the severely disabled LCPs in the society due to their severely disability status, decided to start a Home for their rehabilitation as they cannot earn their livelihood normally. As decided by the Ministry to stop the VTC which we had been managing with effect from 31.03.2018 and continue the Rehabilitation Home for LCPs w.e.f. 01.04.2018 where the VTC was in operation. Hence the said Home will provide a secured Home away from the discriminating society and allow them to have a dignified and peaceful living. At present the Home is accommodating 25 nos. of such LCPs who are living peacefully. Slowly the Home will admit more and more such beneficiaries.
(e) Community Based Rehabilitation Programme(CBR) : Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) is a strategy within community development for the rehabilitation, equalization of opportunities and social integration of all people with disabilities. CBR is implemented through the combined efforts of disabled people themselves, their families and communities, and the appropriate health, education, vocational and social services. This approach to CBR is multi-sectoral and includes all governmental and non- governmental services that provide assistance to communities. Many of the services which can provide opportunities for and assistance to people with disabilities are not traditionally considered relevant to CBR programmes and people with disabilities. Examples include community development organizations, agricultural extension services, and water and sanitation programmes. In order to address the problems of the disabled’s in its area of operation, our organization has been implementing the CBR Programme in Tarabha, Sonepur block of Subarnapur district Programme since long. The said project was approved by the Govt. of India, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment during the year 2017-18. During the year 2021-22 theproject staffs have helped in serving 154nos. of disabled persons through various rehabilitative services hailing from Subarnapur district. The project has assisted hundreds of PWDs in enhancing their quality of living. The next year the programme will be covered outreach/ Uncovered PWDs of Subarnapur district.
(f) Special School for Disabled: Special education is the practice of educating students in a way that provides accommodations that address their individual differences, disabilities, and special needs. Ideally, this process involves the individually planned and systematically monitored arrangement of teaching procedures, adapted equipment and materials, and accessible settings. These interventions are designed to help individuals with special needs achieve a higher level of personal self-sufficiency and success in school and in their community which may not be available if the student were only given access to a typical classroom education. NRDC has been managing a Special School for disabled under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Department of Empowerment of persons with Disabilities under DDRS Scheme. Children with severe multiple disabilities who have difficulty in coping with regular schools are referred to such special schools. Most of these special schools are located in rural areas and run by voluntary organizations. A majority of them are residential schools, and boarding- lodging and other services are provided free of cost. The main thrust of special education is to develop communication skills and other sensory abilities, with the end objective varying from acquiring daily living skills to integration in regular institutions of learning and society in general. NRDC has been running the said school since last eight years which got grant-in-aid during the year 2017-18. The project is located at Panisiali, Po-S.Kalapathar under Subarnapur district of Odisha. Disabled children are enrolled and provided with education along with integrated care & protection services with the help of specially trained teachers with special educational aids. The project is being sponsored by the Govt. of India, Ministry of Social Justice &Empowerment, Department of Empowerment of persons with Disabilities. During the year 38 nos.of children with disability in hearing Impaired were admitted. The project is located at Sonepur of Odisha and serving will provide service to deaf & dumb children only.
(g) Welfare of Youths/Adolescents : Youth being enthusiastic, vibrant, innovative and dynamic in nature is the most important section of the population. Youth shows strong passion, motivation and will power which also make them the most valuable human resource for fostering economic, cultural and political development of a nation. A country’s ability and potential for growth is determined by the size of its youth population. The energy and passion of the youth if utilized properly, can bring huge positive change to the society and progress to the nation. Youth are the creative digital innovatorsin their communities and participate as active citizens, eager to positively contribute to sustainable development. This section of the population need to be harnessed, motivated, skilled and streamlined properly to bring rapid progress for a country. Considering the role of youths play in shaping the future of a nation, It is thus imperative that the youths welfare should be the prime target of the Government. In order to guide the youths and utilize their strength, courage for national building initiatives has been organizing various welfare measure for them since the very beginning of the organization. Youth Leadership Training is one of such initiative which helps in capacity building of the youth and encourage to something for the society. Along with leadership training, skill enhancement activities are the one which are being organized regularly to empower them economically. During the last year 375nos. of beneficiaries received the services of the project.
(i) Home for the Beggars : The problem of beggary, like any other social problem, is multidimensional. Its roots are found in the diverse patterns of its intertwined and interlocked social fabrics. Beggars are the people who restore to begging for alms from other people. Beggars can be seen at various places. But the main areas of their operations are the places of pilgrimage and worship. They squat on the banks of the rivers, in front of temples, churches, mosques, gurudwaras, and other places of hectic activity. They roam from street to street, from one locality to another begging for alms. A person begs only when he/she has no source of income and he/she cannot earn livelihood due to some factors which re beyond their control. Although it is a shameful act but still it persists in our state and we need to stop this practice by rehabilitating them. NRDC in order to address their problems started a Home for the beggars during the year at Sonepur.42nos. of beggars are being sheltered in the home with integrated care and support for their comfortable living with scope for vocational training, productive employment etc

ENSURING BASIC SERVICES FOR THE DEPRIVED :

(i) Promotion of Rural Library :In perception of Indian context, majority of Indian reside in rural areas and engaged in agriculture and small scale industry. Illiteracy is curse for a social, cultural, economical development of the country and it leads poverty. Therefore development of the country total depends on the improvements of the rural masses; hence development of the rural masses can be achieved by resolving the problems of the rural masses. Information is considered as an inevitable tool for the development of the any society. It is a fundamental resource for all intellectual activities, cultural, socio, economic and political development of the society. Considering the huge potential of the rural libraries in the development of the community. NRDC has established a Library at Balidokan under Kakatpur block of Puri district of Odisha since last Ten years. (ii) Educational Complex for ST Girls : Education is the stepping stone for the development of a community, race or nation. It is the most important tool that offers inner and outer strength to a person. Education is the fundamental rights of everyone and capable of bringing any desired change and upliftment in the human mind and society. Hence priority is being given by Government to promote education among all. Right to Education Act has been passed by our parliament to provide free & compulsory education to children between the age group of 6 to 14 years. It is thus clear that development of tribal’s cannot be attained unless the rate of literacy is improved among them. In order to improve the literacy rate among the girls belonging to ST community in low literacy pockets, Govt. of India, Ministry of Tribal Affairs has been managing the scheme called : “Strengthening Education in Low Literacy Pockets”. Our organization has been managing such a school called as Educational Complex at Bolangir district of Odisha since last seven years from its own resources. (iii) Health Services :
(a) Integrated Rehabilitation Center for Addicts (IRCA) : Drug abuse is a complex phenomenon, which has various social, cultural, biological, geographical, historical and economic aspects. The disintegration of the old joint family system, absence of parental love and care in modern families where both parents are working, decline of old religious and moral values etc. lead to a rise in the number of drug addicts who take drugs to escape hard realities of life. Drug use, misuse or abuse is also primarily due to the nature of the drug abused, the personality of the individual and the addict's immediate environment. The processes of industrialization, urbanization and migration have led to loosening of the traditional methods of social control rendering an individual vulnerable to the stresses and strains of modern life. The fast-changing social milieu, among other factors, is mainly contributing to the proliferation of drug abuse, both of traditional and of new psychoactive substances. The introduction of synthetic drugs and intravenous drug use leading to HIV/AIDS has added a new dimension to the problem, especially in the Northeast states of the country. Considering the far reaching impact of drug abuse on the society our organization has been taking effective steps for reducing drug abuse and demand. We have been managing the project “ Integrated Rehabilitation Center for Addicts (IRCA) at Tarbha in Subarnapur district of Odisha since 2003-04. MEASURES FOR SUPPLEMENTING FINANCIAL RESOURCES OF NRDC:

(a) Pisciculture : Our state is regarded as backward in pisciculture as majority of fish are imported from neighboring states like Andhra Pradesh to meet our daily demand. The farmers of our state lack knowledge & attitude to take up pisciculture on commercial basis. The farmers should therefore come forward and take the various incentives available from the Govt. and promote pisciculture to fulfill the demand of the state. The organization took initiative to motivate the farmers and organized three nos. of training programmes in modern pisciculture involving 120 farmers in Kakatpur block of Puri district. They were provided with follow up assistance for starting the pisciculture in their own pond or in the community pond taken on lease. To create our resources our organization has been promoting pisciculture in three ponds in Kakatpur block of Puri district and the financial gain is being used for the general purpose of the organization.
(b) Promotion of Sustainable Agriculture : The modern agricultural practices which are heavily dependent on the use of chemical pesticides, inorganic fertilizers and growth regulators has raised the agricultural production manifold but at the cost of resource depletion, environmental deterioration and loss of crop diversity. Therefore it was realized that the modern agriculture is not sustainable in long run, hence the concept of sustainable agriculture emerged which not only emphasizes on the conservation of the natural resources but also maintains the quality of environment. To solve the problems as cited above Sustainable agriculture farming is being practiced which means meeting society's present food and textile needs, without compromising the ability for current or future generations to meet their needs. It can be based on an understanding of ecosystem services. Sustainable farming practices are profitable and environment friendly in the long run. Hence our organization has been promoting the same among the farmers in Subarnapur district of Odisha.During the year 4 nos. of training programmes were organized to educate the farmers from Subarnapur district regarding sustainable agriculture including precision farming, Good Agricultural Practice, Integrated Pest Management, Integrated Nutrient Management etc. with extensive use of mechanized tools and high yielding variety of seeds to optimize the production.
